  2. The Gjelsvik stone

    Professor Nikolaus Gjelsvik (1866-1938) was born at the farm of Gjelsvik in the municipality of Vevring, now Askvoll municipality. He is regarded as one of the greatest lawyers this country ever fostered. Gjelsvik also contributed much in the language movement, the youth movement, and the temperance movement. In 1941, the people of the Sunnfjord district erected a memorial stone at his place of birth.

  4. Trollefos Uldvarefabrik

    For more than thirty years the Trollefossen waterfall on the farm of Engjabøen at Holmedal provided the woollen mill by the same name with electric power until the buildings burnt down in 1932. The enterprise created jobs, but it faced many problems.
  5. Helle Teglverk

    From the 1890s until around 1920, the old municipality of Fjaler was the most industrialized of the municipalities in the county of Sogn og Fjordane. The largest enterprises before 1900 were the two brickyards. Helle Teglverk was started up in 1895, and Vårdal Teglverk in 1897. In 1905, 52 persons were employed at the two yards. In the early 1960s, Vårdal Teglverk was bought by Helle Teglverk, which was in operation until 1978.
  6. The inn at Sauesund

    Sauesund, like most places with an inn, is situated on a sound. The old inn is at Atløy, in the municipality of Askvoll, with a view across the narrow sound of Sauesundet. The municipal centre of Askvoll, on the opposite side of the Granesundet sound, has now taken over all the traffic which earlier went across the Sauesund.
  7. The trading post of Kjempenes

    Bulandet is situated on the ocean westernmost in the municipality of Askvoll, comprising ten small islands. The trading post of Kjempenes, where the inn and the general store were situated, is on the island of Musøya. This island is situated between Hillersøy to the south-west and Nikøy to the north-east. The other islands are concentrated in a north-westerly direction from Kjempenes.
  8. Askvoll during the Viking Period

    Askvoll is centrally located on the sea lane, and in the surrounding area several sea battles were fought during the Viking Period. The Norse saga literature gives more information.
  9. Undredal church

    Undredal church is a stave church from the mid-12th century. The church, with a seating capacity of only 40, has since the early 18th century been clad with horizontal panelling. It is said to be the smallest church in the Nordic countries. Undredal church is a ¿sokn" church for the Undredal ¿sokn" which has a congregation of 116 members. This is the smallest church but one in the county and even in the diocese.
  10. Førde church

    Førde church is a basilica church in wood located on the farm Skei in the centre of Førde. It has 600 seats and was consecrated on 1 October, 1885 by bishop Fredrik Waldemar Hvoslef. The architect Jacob Wilhelm Nordan designed the church. It is the parish church of Førde parish and main church of Førde "sokn" (sub-parish).
