  1. Vetvik - the big farm that was deserted

    On the northwest coast of Bremangerlandet - with the ocean as its neighbour, we find the deserted hamlet of Vetvik. Earlier this was a small rural community, but the last person left the hamlet in 1951.
  2. The trading post of Smørhamn

    At the southernmost point of Bremangerlandet is the old inn of Smørhamn. The sea entrance from the west is narrow, and it is necessary to stay close to the island of Rota. To the east are the frequently weather-exposed waters of Frøysjøen. To the west is the island of Frøya with the small town of Kalvåg, now connected by bridge. Smørhamn is still an important harbour for ferry and express boats.
  3. The warehouses and boathouses at Kalvåg

    Kalvåg enjoys a sheltered location on the eastern side of the island of Frøya. Throughout many centuries this was a good harbour for fishermen in the herring and cod fisheries. The many warehouses lining the bay show that fish trading also played an important part at Kalvåg. Fish processing and trade nowadays are carried out in larger buildings. Thus, Kalvåg is not at all just a far-away, picturesque fishing village, and the old boathouses now serve as accommodation facilities for tourists. The place is one of the few thriving centres along the coast of Sogn og Fjordane.
  4. Ålfoten church

    Ålfoten church is a cog-joint wooden longchurch in the village of Ålfoten in the municipality of Bremanger. The church can seat 100, and it was built in the 17th century. For a long time the year 1678 was held to be the year of the construction, but it probably dates from about 1610. Ålfoten church is a ¿sokn" church for the Ålfoten ¿sokn" in the parish of Davik.
  5. Memorial for the poet vicar Claus Frimann

    Claus Frimann, born 1746, was vicar at Davik for 42 years. He is known as the poet vicar in Nordfjord, best known perhaps for his book "Almuens sanger" (Songs for the Common People), and in particular, the song "Den norske fisker" (The Norwegian Fisherman). In 1936, the congregation of Davik church erected a memorial dedicated to their famous poet vicar.
  6. The German coastal artillery fortifications at Tangane

    In the autumn of 1940, The German navy started the construction of a coastal fort at Tangane. The construction work was led by Germans, but much work was carried out by Norwegian entrepreneurs and workers.
  7. The trading post of Vågsberget

    On the south side of the island of Vågsøy, at the entrance to the Vågsfjord we find the old trading post and inn of Vågsberget. The trading post with the inn has a beautiful setting along the sea lane, encircled by big, planted deciduous trees. Bergen citizens started trading here in the 17th century. Today Vågsberget is one of the best preserved of the 19th-century trading posts in western Norway. In 1989, it was decided to restore the buildings of the old trading post.
  8. Kråkenes lighthouse

    In 1906, a lighthouse station was built at Kråkenes under pressure from the Kristiansund Skipper Association. The lighthouse is located to the west of Stad and is the most weather-exposed station along the Norwegian coastline. During World War II, it was bombed by allied forces and rebuilt about 1950. Today Kråkenes has become a popular tourist destination as well.
  9. Boat-landing facilities at Kråkenes

    The people of Kråkenes have always been faced with bad landing sites. There were five known sites: Storehola, Keila, Stiksvika, Bleke and Synstestøa. In 1933-38, a road was built to Kråkenes from the Kvalheim farm.
  10. Cultural monument of the church site on the island of Silda

    On the island of Silda there was a church from about 1320 to 1580. It was a chapel church in the parish of Selje. It was no longer in use after a new church was built at Nord-Vågsøy. Today the church site is marked with a cultural monument, and the place names of Kyrkjevågen, Kyrkjevågneset and Prestevika are present reminders of the Middle-Age church on Silda.
