Backamo campsite
Backamo campsite is part of our cultural heritage as the Bohuslän regimental training ground. Originally there were two camps in Bohuslän: Stenehed near Hällevadsholm, and Backamo. After 1770, however, only Backamo was retained. Soldiers were summoned to Backamo for exercises during the summer months, and the camping in tents or cabins continued until the middle of the 19th century. What we see today is a result of changes and expansion mostly during the latter part of the 19th century.

Today, the camp is a good starting point for hiking on Bredfjället, which the Bohus trail passes. -

There was a point in history when the eyes of the whole of Europe were focused on the small town of Castricum. On 6th October 1799 a decisive battle took place at this normally very peaceful little town on the coast of the province of Noord-Holland, in the Napoleonic wars. Eighty thousand English, Russian, Dutch and French soldiers went into battle against each other. Twenty thousand of them would not live to tell the tale. -
