NORWEGIAN HIKING FESTIVAL - Planning and Event
This is one of many Community Mobilisation Initiatives developed by Coast Alive partners. This one was done by Møre and Romsdal County with local partners in Norway. It aimed to create an increased focus on hiking, public health and use of organized nature based activities, to stimulate nature and culture based development, strengthen local outdoor life identity, encourage and engage local societies, upgrade and professionalise the use of hiking products for tourists and the local population, create an increased consciousness of a sustainable environment and of sustainable tourism and promote Norway and Nordmøre and its qualities as a hiking destination. -
FROM THE ICE AGE TO THE ICE AGE - A HERITAGE TRAIL
This is one of many Community Mobilisation Initiatives developed by Coast Alive partners. This one was done by the Municipality of Kragerø with local partners in Norway. It was aimed at increasing physical activity among the general public, increasing awareness of local historic sites and their importance, enhancing a sense of personal identity and roots and providing an outdoor activity for schools. One focus was on the Ice Age, including the history of ice production and export. -
"Bike it" gets people cycling
"Bike it" was the delivery of a mass cycle ride that aimed to raise awareness and promote health and exercise by inviting groups, schools and individuals to participate. It was open to all ages, abilities and backgrounds and delivered under the guidance of the National Park Authority utilising the Coast Alive Project with the support of partner organisations and local businesses. -
Building Confidence
In the North York Moors National Park a scheme was developed called "Get and Up and Go" This was an award aimed at promoting opportunities for young adults with a range of learning difficulties and disabilities to enjoy a healthier life style. This was achieved by taking part in a variety of outdoor and team building activities at Peat Rigg Outdoor Training Centre. -
Bus to Nature
Cheap bus tours were arranged to Stättareds 4-H farm to make the facility accessible to new groups and to make it possible for more people to enjoy outdoor activity, nature and walking along Hallandsleden. In Stättared, Hallandsleden is available for walking, enjoying wildlife, beautiful scenery and learning more about nature and the animals at the farm. -
Geocaching with Schools in the National Park
School Children were given the opportunity to walk along part of the Cleveland Way and North Sea Trail. On the way they were able to experience the coastal landscape and wildlife, history and culture and gain an introduction to geocaching. Transport was arranged to take children to the start and pick them up from the end of the walk. -
Backpacks, what works and what is needed?
This initiative was aimed at developing different sets of backpack content for different types of visitors. By developing sets of equipent, it was hoped that visitors would rent or buy a backpack suited to their interests or plans for the family. The project worked, but showed very different results from those originally anticipated. -
The active living Project (GALM-SCALA)
The active living project (GALM-SCALA) is a project for people from 55-65 years who haven't undertaken sports (much) for a long time. It is used in order to change behaviour from an inactive to an active lifestyle. The program takes 1,5 year and contains 5 steps
