Maps

Coming from the south you arrive in Middlesbrough on the White Rose Cycle Route. There is a map for this route, but unfortunately it is out of print and not available from the Sustrans online shop. However it stiil appears on other web-based bookshops, so you should be able to order it for £5.99 or thereabouts - search on Google or try Amazon.

Heading north into County Durham towards Newcastle, you are on the Three Rivers Cycle Route (see Sustrans route page here). Go to the Sustrans online shop to order.

As you enter Middlesbrough from Yorkshire in the south you are on Route 66. Heading north through Stockton and onto Hartlepool you follow Route 14. See here for more detail on route numbering.
Accommodation
The section of the route in Tees Valley. Redcar (off the route, but a pleasant seaside resort) and Seaton Carew near Hartlepool have quite cheap holiday bed and breakfasts and small hotels. Midldesbrough, Stockton and Hartlepool are bigger industrial towns with a small selection of larger hotels. No camping as far as we know.
Cycle parking/repairs/rentals
There are cycle shops in Middlesbrough, Stockton and Hartlepool. The Halfords chain does bike spares.
Package tours

There are sometimes package tours on the White Rose Cycle Route. Holiday Lakeland have done them in the past, but not in 2006. None are known on the Three Rivers Cycle Route at the moment. See Tynebikes cycle holidays links page and look for yourself.

Transportation
Newcastle to the north is the regional hub for road, rail, air and of course bike. Darlington to the east is also on the East Coast Main Line railway. Redcar, Middlesbrough, Stockton and other towns have local trains to both. Subject to space you can take bikes on these trains without booking, though avoid peak travel to work times. Durham Tees Valley Airport is just to the east towards Darlington.
